July Week 1

So now we’re a week into July, has it been a better month so far than June? In most ways yes it has. The sun finally came out in Seattle on the 4th and we have had several days of beautiful warm (almost hot) weather.  It’s supposed to continue into this week as well. I am hoping that it will hold through next weekend, but we’ll see.

My July challenge is going pretty well. I am getting in lots of walking, though since I have been working the late shift most days, I haven’t been getting the round trip walk, just one way. I have blogged more, though not quite up to the 5 days a week that I set as my goal. And most days I’ve been eating my breakfast, drinking my water and taking my supplements. So overall, off to a good start there as well.

Another plus to the month so far is my promotion at work. Unfortunately this means that we are short one person until a new full-time associate is hired, but it means that I got a 10% raise and more guaranteed hours. After having been in management for so many years, its been really strange, and in some ways difficult, to have just been a sales associate for the last 10 months. Even with my promotion, I am nowhere near the level of responsibility or pay that I once enjoyed. But I am thankful to be working after being unemployed for so long, so I really can’t complain.

July hasn’t been all good, but no month ever is. There have been some losses in the lives of people close to me. I have been much happier for the most part this month, but have had my moments of loneliness and frustration. Money is really stressing me out right now, but hopefully things will improve a lot in that area soon with my new pay rate.

All in all I am looking forward to another good week this week and hopefully some celebrating next weekend…

What have you been doing in July?


A New Month…

June was not the best of months for me, so I was really glad to say goodbye to it this weekend and focus in on a new month, one of my favorite months of the year! July is full of so many wonderful things… fireworks, sunshine (usually), picnics, ice cream and of course, my birthday!

I decided that I wanted to do another challenge this month, even though last month’s challenge really flopped. I decided to go a little easier on myself this time and to shift my focus around a little. I divided this challenge into 3 parts: fitness, food and personal and have a couple of goals in each category.

Walk 20+ miles per week (this equals to and from work, 5 days)
Do at least 2 additional cardio workouts per week
Do 2 strength sessions per week
Stretch daily

The walking I am already doing, though I don’t always walk home on the nights I close. Everything else I need to get better at, especially the stretching!

Drink my water, at least 64 oz per day
Take my supplements
Eat breakfast
Have at least 2 freggie servings daily

Most days I’m good with my water, but there are days that I just don’t drink enough. And while I have gotten much better with breakfast, I still need to make myself eat it every day. I know the freggie goal is pretty low, but right now, it’s a good goal for me because while I am bringing fresh produce into my house every week, I sometimes struggle to actually eat it.

Blog regularly (at least 5 days per week)
Read at least 30 minutes daily
Complete one project per week

I know that I feel better when I meditate, but haven’t been doing it for a while. I’m not very good at it, but just sitting in calmness helps me to focus better and be less stressed, so I really need to bring meditation back into my daily life. As far as blogging, I love to blog, but somehow completely went off the internet in the month of June for extended periods of time and I really don’t know why. I know from last month that its difficult for me to blog every single day, but I should be able to post a blog most days of the week. I only completed 2 books in June and both of those were at the end of the month, because while I was not on the internet, I was also not reading! So I am getting back to reading every night before bed at least and trying to read on my lunch breaks and various other times during the day. Finally, I have several projects that need to be completed around the house, so I want to focus on completing one project each week this month.

So those are my major goals for July, though I still have my big year-long project that I am planning to start mid-month (my birthday). I am tossing around titles for what to call it, but the one that seems to be sticking is “My 42nd Year” since it will essentially be running from my 41st birthday to my 42nd. I’ll blog more about this project as we get closer to the start date.

Challenge Update

Needless to say with the way my month has gone so far, I am not as far as I was expecting to be in my June Challenge. The good news though is that there is still time to pull things out and make some real progress working towards my goals.

Here is where things currently stand:

Blogging 7/30= 23%

Breakfast 14/30= 47%

Mileage 30.5/100= 30%

Squats 290/1000= 29%

Crunches 250/1000= 25%

Pushups 210/1000= 21%

Gym classes 0/5= 0%

So on the whole, even though we are halfway through the month, I am only 25% of the way to my goal. I really need to turn things up over the next 2 weeks in order to hit at least 80%!

June Challenge

I had mentioned in a previous blog that I was putting together a challenge for June as well as a larger year-long project to start after my birthday in July. Tonight I want to share the details of my June Challenge with you.

There are 5 pieces to my June Challenge, and I will be updating you on my progress every Saturday. Since I will only be two days into the challenge next Saturday, my first update will be to share my tracking methods for everything. Here are the goals for the challenge:

1. Blog daily! I will be posting to my blog every day in the month of June. I will be continuing with my Adventure Monday, Wednesday Walks and Friday 5 blogs, but will be adding in additional blogs as well, including my Saturday Challenge Updates.

2. Walk, run or bike 100 miles in the month of June. This comes out to 3.3 miles per day which is completely do-able for me.

3. Do 1000 each of push-ups, squats and crunches during the month, which comes out to 33.3 per day. Again this is something that I should be able to accomplish.

4. Eat Breakfast every day! I go through periods where I am eating breakfast all the time, then I will hit a slump and not eat breakfast for several days. This month I want to make sure that I am eating breakfast consistently.

5. Attend 5 Gym Classes. It can be any class… Zumba, Body Pump, Yoga, whatever~ I just need to get into the gym for at least 5 classes this month. While I have been exercising regularly, I haven’t been to the gym in about 6 weeks and its time to get my butt back there!

I have 2 different rewards picked out for this challenge. One of the rewards is for completing 80% of my goals, the other is for completing 100% of my goals (Thank you Laura for the idea of reaching 80%!):
